There are no other serial numbers but things like the barrel date and drawing numbers on various parts which should be correct for the date of manufacture. Stock cartouches also sholud be coorect for date of manufacture. Your gun may have been refinished. The easy way to tell this is to look at the chamber. Is there a bright steel ring or is it parkerized? If it's bright it's original. If it were a mixmaster of USGI M1 parts hung on an original SA recvr, and then re-finished - it is still no big deal. Many folks prefer them that way. You might try posting the question on the CMP site. It was common for M-1's to be returned for arsenal rebuilding. The serial number shows the original build date, other markings SA xxxxxxx month yearoften on the barrel, visible with the slide held back, have a later date of the rebuild. As I recall, the rebuild program lasted up till 3 - It could be that you have a M-1 built in and rebuilt later, hence it's very nice condition. Could also be that after rebuilding it was placed into storage and never re-issued!
